Massanutten is a beautiful mountain resort located right outside of
Harrisonburg in McGaheysville, Virginia. Many local residents are familiar
with Massanutten but it seems like the large student population in the area
from JMU, EMU, and Bridgewater remains unaware of the resort. Even those
who know about Massanutten or even only participate in the snow sports
might not know that the resort also has a waterpark, a golf course, zip-lining,
mountain biking, and even go-karts. As a home owner at the resort, I find
new things to do every time I go. Not only do a lot of students not know about
Massanutten, many that do might not have a ride, or possibly cannot afford
admission into the resort’s different amenities. Massanutten is a great
getaway from student life, and is only an easy 25 minute drive from the JMU
campus. If an app was created effectively, users could learn about what the
resort has to offer, look for rides, and check for deals and promotions to save
money.

What is the goal?
-To maximize convenience, interconnectedness, and efficiency among JMU students that are interested in using Massanutten
Where would this be used/marketed
-Geared towards JMU students, for Massanutten resort (25 minutes away)
When is this app going to be useful?
-Year-round. Massanutten has amenities for any time of the year. Would be especially used during winter when snow sports are popular and college students are in town.
Why is it necessary?
-A lot of JMU students don’t know of all the amenities Massanutten has to offer year-round. Getting students together to go in groups and helping them get the equipment/info they need would improve that.
How will it be done?
-An app will show all students planning to go to Massanutten, or attempting to. Students can carpool, share equipment, offer lessons, find houses/lodges to visit for the weekend, etc.
